I have been working, with my son the programmer who does all the real work, on an audio file player for the site.

Ning charge an extra $300 per year for this facility so we are rather squeezing the pips of what this Ning package allows (or doesn't allow !)

In the "Music Library"  search for  Ragtime Episode  (Just type:  rag  or epi and that will find it).

You will see that there is now a "PLAY" button. Listen to "A Ragtime Episode" played as it was in the good old days. I am so impressed a vibrancy in the piece that I have never heard before... to me, REAL Ragtime!  It has never been a favourite of mine... it is now!

Give the player a try. It is designed to allow members to record MP3 files (then email them to me) so that can they be played from the scores library. Also they can be downloaded  as part of the ZIP from the download button.

Let me have your comments please.

It works great! The best part is that the audio files load and play very quickly.

I am slowly adding available original recordings of the great players from the classic era to the scores database.

Check out:  Peaceful Henry,  A Ragtime Episode, Yankeeland and Smoky Mokes as these are in the testing phase.

Enjoy  :-)

Those recordings are amazingly cool -- love the old Ragtime banjo + brass band setting for Yankee Land. The modern Pat&Eric Stefanelli recording with bassoon accompaniment really captures the original feeling.

The quality is amazingly clear for cylinders... the 1902 Ossman recording rings clear as a bell.

Hi Ian,

Is it possible to set up some kind of "jukebox" for the audio files you're uploading?  While it's great to find them attached to files in the Library, it would also be nice just to listen to them as a playlist of some sort.  And not only "commercial" recordings of the "masters" - but members audio recordings as well, like Jon Mills' recent Radio Jig that he uploaded to another site.  Would it be possible to have a tab for AUDIO, like we do for VIDEO?  Might get more folks contributing their own samples; I know I for one have less trouble recording to audio than facing the evil red eye of the video camera!

Just a suggestion Ian.  I hate to lump more work on your plate.  It's plain to see that you're busting your hump for all us folks as it is.

All efforts appreciated, Ian.

Thanks,

Adam
