Tattoo

I've been learning Tattoo by Emile Grimshaw.  It's  a fun piece to play that sounds more challenging than it actually is.  One thing that bothers me is the straight (and rather boring) second part.  In my mind I want to change the rhythm and syncopate it, and it sounds great this way.  Does anybody else syncopate this section?
