Managing the Tune of the Fortnight

Rather than continue to hijack Rob's "for sale" post, I thought it best to create a new discussion.

Rob has expressed his desire to hand off the management of the Tune of the Fortnight (TOTF) to another member of the group.  Certainly if there's someone who would like to take on those duties that would be great.

But ... There's no reason it needs to be a solo job.  Perhaps we can each take a turn now and then posting a tune for the group to learn.

I'll take the first leap and get something ready for TOTF 8 in the first week of June (uploading around June 2 or 3).

Any other members want to schedule their time to upload a tune?

Or have other ideas about managing it?

I certainly have enjoyed the TOTF tunes we've done so far and I'd really hate to see it die off. 

Finally, as you might have noticed, the current TOTF (7 - Bright Eyes Gavotte) is now a "sticky" item (or "featured" item in Ning-speak) on the main page.  When new TOTFs are posted, we can "un-feature" the old and feature the new.

There is a similar thread in the OT section of the Banjohangout. It seems to survive well enough...but it isn't a "playing" thread. Basically, it is open for anyone to 'make an appointment' and then contribute when the day appears...and then discuss. We certainly could do that, perhaps with something like an appointment calendar or event log. I'd be happy to contribute...occasionally.

One thing I would like to suggest is that we keep going thru the Grimshaw tutor. I think that perhaps we might do well to start from the beginning and go sequentially thru them all (perhaps one per month?). Of course, we could pick another tutor and work thru it. We are fortunate to have LOTS of tutors out there.

Not everyone will be interested in every tune and some fortnights we'll have no interest at all. It goes like that sometimes.

I took a look at the index of "tunes of the week" on the Banjo Hangout and I like the idea of having an archive/index of our TOTFs. But, I'd call us lucky if we get to the point of needing an appointment calendar or event log! We can probably just rely on people speaking up when interested. As you say, there will be interest some weeks and not others.

While I enjoy a bit of Grimshaw now and then, one a month gives us 7 years of Grimshaw! Crikey! ;-D

I think I'll stick to something non-Grimshaw for my June 2d-ish contribution. But I'm certainly amenable to more Grimshaw for the future!
