Evolution of the Banjo.. a new perspective?

After Mike's very interesting dissertation on the origins and development of the balalaika, Domra and banjo I thought that I would do some research and came up with something very interesting.

It appears that a separate strand of banjo evolution arose from the Iron Age workers

This was obviously refined in later years, and even though still not perfect,

... eventually was to become  the banjo we know and love today.
