Clifford Essex Regal

Anybody here play a Regal?  How do they compare to the other high-end CE banjos (Special XX, Paragon, Professional)?  The hollow rim is an interesting design.

Well I grabbed one, but it's a tenor!  Should be great for my Irish playing.  From the clips I have it sounds nearly identical to a Paragon, although it has better bass response.  Is there any tone ring on top of the beveled rim, or does the head just sit on the beveled wood?
