FROM 'ELLIS'S ADVANCED SCHOOL FOR THE BANJO AND ZITHER BANJO', PLAYED ON A WILMSHURST ZITHER BANJO.

This is the first recording I have made. I played the tune once through from memory, just to hear if the banjo sounded ok and if I could work out how to post it.

Ian, my experience may not apply to your situation but I thought I'd tell you anyway. When my mother was in her last days and not well I would visit her with my banjo and a portable music stand. I'd sit on a chair at the foot of her bed and I'd practice whatever I was learning.   She obviously enjoyed hearing it even though it was not well played and not a performance. Of course mothers often think whatever their sons do is wonderful whereas wives rarely have that opinion. But dementia was one of her ailments so she often did not know I was her son.  Is practicing while your wife is awake absolutely out-of-the question?

Hi Jody,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Because her cognitive function is rapidly diminishing and I am increasingly engaged in attending to those things she no longer understands, I prefer not to play until she sleeps. That tends to be for short periods throughout both the day and at night.
