Martin Wheatley leads this great tribute to "my hero" Fred Van Eps.

Recorded at the Mike Durham's International Jazz Party at Whitley Bay UK  November 2022.

An inspiring performance, the band certainly enter into the spirit of the era, the drummer seems to have managed to find the 'skulls' and the other bits and pieces which the 'trap' drummers of the time employed in their kit. A very enjoyable and well played programme of some demanding pieces, 'Persiflage' in particular. I also liked the 'Red Pepper Rag', not much heard these days.

'Persiflage' written by W.T.Francis published by Witmark in 1904. A challenging piece which I never beat.
