"Lamento Borincano" is one the most iconic songs from the Latin America folklore and therefore it has been performed for many singers (I personally liked the Caetano Veloso´s performance). The song tells the history of a poor farmer (a "jibarito") who tries to sell his products in the local market without any success. In addition, "Borinquen" refers to the indigenous name of Puerto Rico, where it belongs this song.

Well, this is the world premiere on banjo (classic style)!. Like all my videos...an incredibly amateur performance.... but you only make a road, walking,,,

German,

I am trying to be helpful, and while I fully agree that you only make progress by learning to walk before you can run may I suggest that you make special effort to alternate fingers and thumb rather than using only the thumb. You will never progress simply using the thumb only.

Beginners exercises in alternating fingers are available in our LESSONS and in downloadable tutors. My feeling is that you really need to learn to walk properly or you will never learn to run.

You have considerable left hand skill (guitar?) and I suggest that you should work on the right hand. Check the string tuning too. Do you have an electronic tuner as Christmas is nearly here and Santa may be able to help?

Ian,

Thanks again for all your advices. Actually, I had started to detect this problem in the past videos...I called it "the thumb syndrome" (in Colombia, people call this "style" el guitarrero). I will start to improve in more situations the shifts between the fingers. I practice your alternating fingers exercise every day in several tempos, however, I was not using this knowledge in the songs I have learnt...I will try to include it in the future (It is a promise!). Concerning the tuning problems, I believe it is a problem of my banjo because I tune the strings every time I begin practising .. so I hope Santa has a banjo in his bag.

Coming soon I will share the Clematis Waltz in a beta version. I hope it will be a nice banjo experiment.

All the best

German
