Banjo Twang - Danse Negre by Charles Drumheller (1893)

Charles Drumheller's Banjo Twang - Danse Negre is Piano Imitation, i.e. it is a piano selection, which imitates the sound of the banjo.

You can read about Banjo Imitations - and about a lot of other subjects - in Sarah Meredith's dissertation (Sarah Meredith: With a Banjo on Her Knee: Gender, Race, Class, and the American Classical Banjo Tradition, 1880-1915 (2003) Florida State University - http://diginole.lib.fsu.edu/etd/2480/), and in Appendix A there's a list of Banjo Imitations.

One of the Banjo Imitations in Appendix A is Septimus Winner's "Winner's Banjo" (1858). Greg Adams and Tim Twiss have made videos of it.
