Note the square nuts, with integral ball ends; the balls on the earlier models were separate from the nuts. The tailpiece is fastened on with gut (in this case with some kind of woven twine) the end bolt is not drilled to take a metal tailpiece.
Weaver did fit metal tailpieces to banjolins, tenor and plectrum banjos and some of his banjos in later years.
