Yes Tony, We obviously have to re-think the origins of the banjo!  I thought that my Weaver was old ;-)

An introduction to Banjo enclosures (a type of archaeological
site of the British Middle Iron Age of circa 400 BC to roughly AD 43) and describes
their common forms and characteristics, including prominent examples of sites.
A summary of the academic interest in the asset type is included which outlines
the research which has been undertaken for Banjo enclosures.
