A Site Dedicated to all enthusiasts of Classic Style Banjo
Richard, You have an amazing resource or photos, music and instruments. Thank you for posting all these pictures. They are all very interesting. I don't know if our paths ever crossed in the late 1970's? I was being taught at that time and I went to, and entered competitions at, various BMG Rallies in London, Manchester and all over the country. Were you playing around this period...or still at school? :-)
Thanks again for the posts.
Thanks for responding, nice to know my small efforts, to bring happiness to fellow banjo enthusiasts, are not wasted. I cannot remember meeting anyone called thereallyniceman, I started playing the banjo in 1961 and had more or less put it away by 1975 except for the occasional run through 'Blaze Away' for old times sake. I recommenced playing the banjo when I met Paul Whyman in about 1985, he was a guitarist and just starting to play the banjo, we used to play the usual Morley and Grimshaw pieces together and eventually we got to play most of the really fine Cammeyer duets such as 'Down Devon Way' 'Danse Bizarre' etc. Unfortunately he lost interest in the banjo and so the zither duets faded. I have a good collection of music and odds and ends of banjobilia and I am pleased to share what I have. I used to see Chris Sands whenever I was in the Lake district but our paths have not crossed for some time - he was kind enough to send me his good wishes, and a present of a set of his strings, during my recent illness.I will put some more stuff on the site as time allows.

Hi Richard,
Thereallyniceman is my Interweb re-incarnation. Obviously based on what everyone says about me, well nearly everyone, er well the wife says I am a .... Oh well, perhaps the name is not so good after all :-)
We missed each other in the 70s then. I started around 1974-75 and gave up 1980ish. Wife, children and work being the main cause. But now I have more time I am trying to get back into it again...TRYING.
It is great how the banjo calls you back. Luckily, I didn't sell my banjos so they stayed under the bed for 30 years until I decided to drag them out and torture them again.
Keep posting. It is fascinating to see what you have!
All the best
Ian
Richard, I for one have looked at every photo you've shared and read all your posts and have enjoyed them all. Your posts are certainly not wasted. Most recently, thanks for alerting me to Alf Wood's "Dallas Minor Jig". I had the dots and had a look this morning. As you say, it's of a type that seems to have been current back then. I have a JE Dallas zither -banjo. I think I'll play it on that.
