That's a fingerstwister, Jody.

Yes indeed Clarke,  In the left hand Pensacola presents some transitions between not particularly difficult positions and passages that did not come naturally at first. I still find the *right* hand in the second part challenging, where one has to come up on the first two strings with the index and middle together and then again immediately after.

Hi Jody, Is that a CE Concert Grand you are playing?  Great banjos!

Can anyone let me have a copy of Pensacola  dots please?  I like to try out tunes with challenging fingering even if just for the practice, and if Jody found it tricky...it MUST be tricky!

Yes, Ian, it's Tom Ryan's Concert Grand which he kindly let me play for the occasion. I've been wanting one of these since I heard my first one about a decade ago. It came wafting through the trees at a camping ground adjacent to a music festival in Missouri. I thought it to be a perfect banjo sound. I haven't yet found one for sale that hasn't been damaged or seriously compromised. I'll post the first and (if I can find it) the second banjo part of Pensacola here later today or tomorrow. None of the fingerings are in themselves tricky. It's the getting from one easy fingering to the next easy fingering that is confounding in this tune. You'll see what I mean.

I have posted both banjo parts of Pensacola. Look in the Photos section  of this website.

Thank you Jody.

I am away for a couple of days so I will have a play when I get back.

There is a butchered CE Concert Grand on UK Ebay now.. why can't people just leave things alone!

(It's doesn't look too bad apart from the back of the peghead!)
