The fifth string runs down the side of the fingerboard. This was a patented idea they had. The patent date was my birthday in 1895.
I think that is called karma.

The details of this banjo are lovely. Have you got photos that show the whole front and whole back?  I feel like one of those legendary Elephant Examiners.

Will get it soon. Had a surgery yesterday. Out of ten or so banjos, it is my go to one. It is rather light and has a 12" pot.

Cannot play it while recuperating. But can take photos soon!

Thanks. Lovely. I think you might enjoy tuning better if the fifth string attached to the peg to which the bass string is now attached. The third string can go to the middle peg.
