I have a copy of the programme for the 1946 BMG rally. The John Alvey Turner Shield was for Bands & Orchestras. The test piece was ‘Operatic Memories’, arr. Grimshaw. Lewisham Club were first, Croydon second.
Click on the photo to enlarge. My mother, Myrtle Martin (later Torrence) is on the far right with upright banjo. There are four other members of her family in the photo.
The BMG Newletter 37 reproduces this photograph and dates it to the late 1950s, which I know to be wrong.
