This is confusing. Is this banjo being offered for sale by Denis Schut? If so, why is the reallyniceman's banjo displayed at the top? Is the banjo in france? What is the price please? Are you sure the engraving on the metal is original? The banjo in the photo in the case appears to have a 12 inch pot. It might be just the camera angle. What is the pot size please?

thank you,

jody

Hi Dennis,

I would prefer members, particularly new members, to contact me first before posting "For Sale" ads on the website.  I am sure that you are aware that there have been instances in the past of people attempting to sell non-existant instruments to the unsuspecting.

This banjo may well be 100% genuine. The photo of my CE XX is at the top as Dennis has replied by a comment to my photo. The engraved armrest appears to be a retrofit.  The pot does look to be quite large, but it may be the camera angle!

Buyers beware please!

Ian

Hi Dennis,

Please don't feel affronted, we are not meaning to be hostile, we are just looking after members' interests. You are very welcome to be a member.

You will have noticed that as part of the sign up process you have to jump through several hoops by answering questions and completing text boxes, this is, unfortunately, due to the fact that we have recently been under attack as a forum by spammers and other automated malicious  spambots. Usually their intent is to gain access to the site, leech contact details and then bombard members with spam (or worse!).

The suggestions and questions are meant to be helpful. Jody's question about the hoop size is valid as they were a specific size and the arm rest is unlike any other Clifford Essex arm rest that I have seen in nearly 40 years.  Many of our members own CE Special XX or Concert Grand banjos and if something does not look correct they will point it out.

How do you know it was from 1908, as CE banjos are not dated as far as I am aware?

I would advise all purchasers of all banjos, un-seen, to beware and make sure that they have all the information.

Regarding your link to the photos on Facebook, it appears not to work and I get the following:

We are delighted to welcome new members. There are no written rules about selling on site,  just common sense and friendly advice to both parties that they ensure they are fully happy with the experience.

It would be better if people wish to see the banjo that you communicate directly and email potential purchasers photos as required. We do not have the facility to be a shop front. Have you considered The Banjo Hangout  as a forum for your sale.

They do have a "classifieds" section that allows multiple photographs, but please be aware that they have very stringent requirements from the vendor to ensure safe transactions for the purchaser.
