OK so a bit tangental but I was watching this documentary from 2003 and it turns out that Julians dad, who was a key influence on him started off playing banjo and when they both decided to take up classical guitar they used a tutorial by Herbert J Ellis who will be no stranger to anyone here.

He goes on to talk about discovering the Philharmonic Society of Guitarists from an item in BMG.

So not directly related to the banjo but watching this I felt like a couple of old pals had unexpectedly wandered onscreen! And you get to listen to lots of Julian Bream too, so what's not to like?

Shame he didn't pivot to banjo rather than lute, isn't it?

Thank you for the link Russ.

I really like playing from the Ellis tutor on my guitar. Here are the exercises and tunes being played by Norbert Neunzling
