Event Description

It is not too late to mark your calendar for the Spring ABF Rally!  We had a huge turnout for the last Fall Rally with many long-time members attending who had not been there in years, not to mention lots of new attendees.

 It’s worth it to just come and listen!

 Anyone interested in the 5-string banjo is invited to come out to the ABF Fall Rally.  This rally’s theme is “Tribute to Albert Baur.”

 There will be “formal” concerts in the evenings by Drew Frech and friends, the “Round Robin” where you can play pieces you like or are working on, plenty of informal playing and jamming, and the Banjo Orchestra— an experience straight out of the 1890s!

 Come to hear and play banjos, get playing advice, and learn about nylon string setups.  This is one of the few places where you can meet and talk with experts in 5-string banjo history and historical styles with a living link to the past.

 Membership is optional (though I might try to talk you into joining).

 Our special rate for rooms is just $89 a night.  For reservations contact the Newark Garden Hotel, 125 N. Main St. Newark, NY 41513, (315) 331-9500.

 The venue is perfect. The rates are cheap, the rooms are clean and they don’t care how late we stay up and play (if we ever stop)!

 The American Banjo Fraternity is a special-interest group focused on the living tradition of fingerstyle or “classic” (nylon/gut strung) banjo, tracing a direct link back to the earliest professional banjoists.  We play the banjo style that was celebrated from the late 1850s up to the 1920s.

We have a change in the program for the "Orchestra" pieces.

The pieces we are playing are;

"Aurora March" by Thomas Armstrong. This is an early (1888) Stewart "club" publication.  A good march and easy to play.

"Low Bridge, Everybody Down" by Thomas Allen.  Our program director Drew Frech arranged this as an instrumental for banjo club.  The venue is right on the Erie Canal so it is a fitting piece!

Both scores complete have been added to the ABF site here...

Hi folks, if you are planning on staying at the hotel and have not already made reservations you better do it now.

I just got off of the phone with our program director and the hotel is filling up!
