"It depends on the actual banjo. I have used both 2 footed and 3 footed bridges on zither-banjos and I use what sounds best to me. Most zither-banjos need a very low bridge.  The revived.Clifford Essex company (which is now semi-suspended) has…"

" 27 inches or more is long. 26 or less is short. In between, you decide.  I think you'll be fine with the 9 and 11 steel wire."

"No, the 25lb is for the 1st and 5th strings. The 30lb is for the 2nd string, and the 40lb is for the 3rd. For the 4th you need to buy a silver plated wound string of some sort (either nylon or silk). I recommend .024" for that string. "

John Cohen replied to morten lind's discussion about classic banjo action
"No, that's the test weight of the line. I believe the 25lb is .016", the 30lb is. 018", and the 40lb is .022". The spools are not always labeled with the diameter. "

"25lb, 30lb, and 40lb. Make sure you get the Premier line ... the standard Seaguar fluorocarbon does not intonate properly. Also, be careful using these string on antique banjos, especially those with long scale lengths. "
