"Thanks for the remarks. I hadn't noticed that my hand was so close to the fretboard, a habit that I picked while learning clawhammer banjo I suppose. I consciously tried to play closer to the bridge earlier today, but my hand somehow always…"

"Very good progress. If I may make a couple of suggestions? As you are sticking to the Bradbury book, take a look at page 2 and look where Bradbury is picking the strings (also page 6 and page 8). For the best tone from the instrument, picking is…"

"Bradbury's book is indeed very good or even the best for learning to read staff notation for the 5 string banjo. My judgement is based on empirical evidence."

Well low and behold, my notation reading skills have vastly improved (and i'm only at the Belle of the Ozarks), so here I am conceding defeat.See More

I think I have the Stars and Stripes around here somewhere...but Sousa's original transcriptions are usually not very good banjo music. Whoever his arranger was...he was horrific at banjo. If you have a version you'd like to see in Tab, let me know and I'll take care of it! OTOH, "The Washington Post March" is a longtime Classic Banjo favorite.

Ok, I've pulled the Essex version out of my files. I think this is the version Marc Dalmasso is playing in his video in the Music Library. Will this do?
