Hi,Has anybody else ever attempted this one/recorded the full version of this AJ Weidt piece? I quite enjoy it, but I'm having a hard time with the second half of it. I feel as though I would benefit…Continue

After nearly a month of not playing any classic banjo (i'm really not complaining, its because I traded in some banjos for a new Eastman! (Very excited!) then I broke a string within the first ten…Continue

david caron replied to Brice Alms's discussion Are there classic banjo tab instruction books?
"I prefer tab myself. I can read standard notation, in the sense that I know which note is which and where it is on the fingerboard, but for some reason it just doesn't register when I try and play piece, unless its in tab.  My favorite tabs…"

Onion Rag : A Bermuda Essence

"This is 3 of the 4 notes of a D7 chord (D natural would complete it). I also had trouble playing it, even when using the thumb and hand position suggested by Ian.  I just kept playing it badly until one day it got clearer. And then it got even…"

Onion Rag : A Bermuda Essence

"Try keeping your LH thumb in the middle of the back of the neck most of the time while playing and arch your fingers over the fretboard. This way a 412 (easy) becomes a 412 extended, that you want but much easier! ... Even for me with my stumpy…"

Onion Rag : A Bermuda Essence

"Thanks. One of my main issues, besides some obvious ones, is that I have smallish hands and I have a lot of trouble with that one chord (which I'm ashamed to say, I can't even identify it), that I call that 412 or rather, 2nd fret on the…"

"This is also one of my favorite tunes. No problem powering thru. I have a hard time doing that though. My body just wants to stop when I screw up...and then recovering from that impulse simply adds more mistakes and the whole thing comes crashing…"

Onion Rag : A Bermuda Essence

By one of my favourite composers, AJ Weidt. I love the build up during the trio. I decided to power through my mistakes. Why not?

"I have to say, the computer does nothing to enhance the intro, it sounds like it stumbles. Human playing will always beat it out for 'feel'...and I haven't picked thru this one at all. Could easily be great after washing thru a brain…"

"We all would like to be "perfect", but, and perhaps I'm a bit odd in in that way, I like to hear small hiccups and so on in amateur, low fi recordings. Yours was fine btw"

" I also prefer recordings because I find them to be a bit more motivating. Often times I can relate to the player or tell myself, "ah gee, he/she plays that other song quite well and I can almost play it, at that level, so I know that I…"

I think I have the Stars and Stripes around here somewhere...but Sousa's original transcriptions are usually not very good banjo music. Whoever his arranger was...he was horrific at banjo. If you have a version you'd like to see in Tab, let me know and I'll take care of it! OTOH, "The Washington Post March" is a longtime Classic Banjo favorite.

Ok, I've pulled the Essex version out of my files. I think this is the version Marc Dalmasso is playing in his video in the Music Library. Will this do?
