"The story goes that when CE first met Joe he was playing "Pas de Quatre" by Lutz on a fretless 6-string. And the last.....according to Keeler "Morley's Last Melody" played on 13th September 1937."

Morley's early works

I Have often wondered what Joe Morley might have been playing when he started off.  The earliest reference I have found to one of his own pieces is not quite what you would expect. In 1893, playing at a concert with the Bijou Minstrels he played (according to the report): Mr Joe Morley’s staccato polka and gavotte, in which were introduced an excellent imitation of the guitar, and a slightly less distinguished harp, was loudly applauded”. . I expect this might be his Polka in C (staccato).  Not…See More

Charlie Rogers

If you have read the biography of Charlie Rogers elsewhere on this site, you may have read most of whatever information there might be on this significant individual, "The Boy Wonder".  I don't think anything is known of him after service in the First World War.I have been quite unable to find him in any of the records available to me, (census, baptism, marriage, military service etc), and indeed he appears in no official record I can find..This usually means that the details are incorrect in…See More

Hello Tony, good to see last weekend - did you enjoy the jacuzzi? We assumed that was why you were late for breakfast!

The only thing that imprinted on my mind was your enthusiasm and skill. Backwell was a great experience, even my mind going blank in the middle of St Louis Tickle was a good experience because the audience was so accepting. I guess it happens to us all from time to time and so they were very forgiving.

Anthony, as you know, I have been arranging a lot of my music for this site. I have a 3-part arrangement of A Banjo Frolic that is almost done. I didn't see this on your list of Morley pieces so I thought I would ask if this is one you are working on. If it is, I will work on something else. If you don't have it, hard to believe, I will continue. It has been a bit difficult because the different instruments were notated by different people so the final measures don't end equally. I have had to add a repeated section where the other piece had first and second endings or something like that. If you need the PDF or TIF files for A Banjo Frolic let me know.

Anthony, I have been using your pisocorporum song title list to determine the composers for each of my songs that I add to the Classic Banjo Radio site. It has been invaluable to me and I wanted to thank you for putting together such a vast compendium. I cannot remember when I got it but it has been many years. I often wondered who pisocorporum was and was surprised to learn it was you. My question is have you added to the list over the years? In my searching through your list I often come up empty when searching for a composer to a specific song. If you have updated it within, say the last 10 years, could you send me your update?
