The first set has been rewired with modern wire. The second set, which has all the original fittings and disconnects, has not. I’m inspired now, so off to find gold colored braided wire for repair…
The bulb size is "C7" or E12 (same thing), 5 watt.
Doing a quick google search for "E12 Brass Socket" it looks like one could find these with a little looking for the $5 to $10 each range. I have no doubt one could salvage these sockets from old lamps at a junk shop or "antique mall" as they are called here. Even garage sales.
The only part one would need to fabricate would be the bracket. That would be pretty easy. a flat piece of brass stock, a piece of rod stock and a tap and die set from the hardware store. Very basic metalworking skills and tools.
If one were not attempting a direct reproduction, any cobbled together bracket would work. Heck, you could potentially attache the lights with a strip of velcro. One could also modify two sockets off of an old string of Christmas tree lights. Again, this is very basic stuff, if you can replace a wall switch or socket, you can rewire a set of these.
