Good condition, set up with nylon strings.  This one would make a nice player's instrument and I'd love to see it go to another classic banjoist. I'm located in the US, message me for details!…Continue

Shawn McSweeny replied to Sam Harris's discussion Rex Schepp/Nat Shilkret "American Banjo Album"
"Most of the following is paraphrased from "The Banjo On Record". Rex Schepp  was born Feb. 17 1897, in Greene Co. Indiana. He took up the banjo at the age of 7. Shortly after the death of Vess L. Ossman Sr. in Dec. 1923, this virtuoso…"

Sam Harris replied to Steven Watson's discussion Banjo and mandolin duets?
"I don't know of any duets, but there are plenty of folios and mandolin club/orchestra arrangements with parts for both mandolin and banjo. I've seen some advertised as "playable with any combination of two or more instruments.""

Sam Harris replied to Jody Stecher's discussion New strings/ New transcription
"Hi Jody, glad to help. If you don't want the "VII" or any filler text, select a plain, straight line from the lines palette and use the "Properties" tab to modify it. Once the line is modified to your liking, you can drag…"

Sam Harris replied to Jody Stecher's discussion New strings/ New transcription
"No problem! There probably aren't too many people using MuseScore for classic banjo notation. For quick access, you can create a custom palette and then drag and drop any item you want into them by selecting the item and pressing Ctrl+Shift. I…"

Sam Harris replied to Jody Stecher's discussion New strings/ New transcription
"Have you tried using the 16th or 8th note "symbol" for 5th string flags in notation? I've found it to be less of a hassle than using a second voice, since MuseScore doesn't recognize it as an additional note."

Sam Harris replied to Joel Hooks's discussion Le Banjo Gottschalk for Banjo
"Grimshaw was blues-aware enough to write "Banjo Blues."  "Moonlight Revels" starts in C and only goes to E for one section. Writing a typical classic banjo piece starting in E major would probably mean modulating to A major…"

Sam Harris replied to Austin 's discussion How many people actually play this style?
"Newgrass banjo players and 19th century banjo composers (that we mostly know through published sheet music) are very different groups. They approach the instrument differently. The type of banjos they play are different. It is apples to oranges. It…"

Sam Harris replied to IAN SALTER's discussion BANJO AUCTION
"I think the catalog is from after Weaver stopped building for CE. The "inferior" banjos are CE specials that look like Weavers, but aren't made by him. The text also seems to be hinting that the banjos Weaver made for Clifford…"
