composed in 1915 by the pianist Felix Arndt , this tune from the Novelty repertory , is a fox trot (kind of ragtime ) . Nola was the name of his wife . His mother was la comtesse de février , from the Napoléon 3rd ' family .Felix Arndt was only 29 when he passed away , but his piano playing influenced George Gershwin

Felix Arndt was Fred Van Eps' piano player (Van Eps Trio, et al) when he wrote "Nola". I think this is why it sounds so good on the banjo. I thought "Nola" was his fiancee...

Well played, Marc. This is also one 'classic' tune the Bluegrass players aspire to learn...all because Bill Keith recorded a version in 1967...

yes , marc , you are right , nola was his wife & not his mother ; lil mistake ; Bill Keith is well knowed in France and i know his version for a long time . He edited a banjo course in the end of the 70 ' and, at the same period , he maried a French girl , who , i guess , is always his wife and play violin
