Forgive me if this has been adressed before but I was wondering if someone could tell me who owns the rights to Frank Converse's 'Analytical Banjo Method'.

I ask because I've been transposing the material found in it up to C notation and making tabs as well.

I'd like to make these available (for free) but before I do I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

Thanks

Andrew

Since it was published in 1886, I suspect it's probably in the public domain. Any work done on the material, such as tabs or transpositions, would be the property of the person doing the work.

So as far as I know, the original source material should be  in the public domain and your transpositions would qualify as new material.
If you do publish a book of Converse in C Tuning, let me know. I collect too many books, and wouldn't mind adding another.

That's what I suspected, thank's Claude.

I chiefly started transposing the material for a student that I had, then I thought I might as well do the lot.

I am sure we would all love to see these pieces in C tuning.

Please post jpgs to PHOTOS section.  They would be really appreciated, and thank you for all the work involved!

It is "public domain". Besides, I own the original of the scan in Tim Twiss' "Clubhouse" and Joel Hooks' site...both are 'full access, download all you like, have fun with it'. Full permission from my end.

I have tabbed a few of the tunes from it...once it is in TablEdit, it can be easily transposed to C (dots, no less).
