Does anyone know how a tone ring does its job? Is it a resonating unit or is it a hard weight to keep the vibrations of the skin from dissipating into the wooden rim?

Thanks for the educational videos. I've already seen a documentary about the beneficial effects of a quality tone ring.

And this one is just for fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xilTIQtX10&feature=related By coincidence, I do have a fiddle.

A reasonable and brief dissertation on the subject may be found here:

Am I the only one who finds these flat talking cartoons distasteful and slightly disturbing? Not primarily  for what they say (although often wide of the mark)  but for the expressionless and mispronounced way the content is spoken. Is that in itself supposed to be entertaining?  People keep sending me links to them. The subject may be politics, economics, music etc and in all cases I find it vaguely disturbing, and in all cases not because of the point of view but because of the bizarre tone of voice.  I guess I'm just not up to date.

I also don't agree with the point of view because the trend is to confuse human folly with the things people are being foolish about. For instance the cartoons about tone rings and banjos are really about culture and fads. They say nothing whatever about banjos and tone.  If some people behave strangely and superstitiously about musical instruments and their components (and they certainly do) that doesn't mean there is a problem with musical instruments and their components.

I'd like to see one of these obnoxious cartoons on the subject of these obnoxious cartoons.

Thanks, Jody. The answer seems to be that no one knows how it works, but it works just fine.

Yes, the voices in the Xtranormal cartoons are obnoxious. I think its a limit in the voice synthesizer. Otherwise someone would have done a proper voice track with the program. I like Vocaloids better.
