There are recordings of this classic tune by FVE and Vess Ossman in original recordings. I've taken my arrangement from a piano score and I've added a few of my own amendments and additions, in particular in the trio, where I've replaced the trombone fills that can be heard on the recordings. I've also added an MP3 recording made by Pryor's band...The score and midi are in the library...Steve.

I've got two arrangements of this, one by Alfred Cammeyer and one unattributed but looks like it came from a Turner folio.  Might be fun to compare.

Hi Joel, Good idea, I'd like to see them, if you attach the PDF files, I'll process them and send them to Ian to add to the library....Steve.

Thanks for the scans of this well worth playing, banjo arrangement of Pryor's trombone showcase tune Joel. It is interesting that only Clifford Essex included  the 'trombone slides' imitations in his arrangement, I used to play this a lot in the 1980s with Paul Whyman and the imitation of the trombone glissandi on the banjo 4th string always raised a laugh with all kinds of audiences and it is these trombone noises which really make this tune. You have to hit the 4th string hard and slide the first finger up and down on the 4th string to make the trombone imitations effective. Arthur Pryor was the lead/1st trombone player in Sousa's band and obviously exploited the comic side of the instrument as many others have done before and since.
