How to excel on the banjo (Emile Grimshaw) Exercises 8, 10, 11, 14, 15

How to excel on the banjo, from the english banjo player Emile Grimshaw, is a really interesting book for someone interested in the classic fingerstyle or just with the idea of expanding the horizons with the banjo.
There are some not so easy or catchy exercises, but those are my favourites from the first part.

I hope you enjoy them!

Very nice!

I go back and forth on Grimshaw's etudes. I enjoy them but I would not recommend them for a beginner as the lessons might be lost.  Then I think that they are perfect for teaching phrasing and dynamics, similar to how etudes are used for teaching Spanish Guitar.  Then I think that the time would be better spent by learning full pieces. But then I think how these are good for reading.

And back and forth I go in my brain.  At the end of the day I do like these and will often pick a random one or two for warmup at the beginning of a practice session.  I struggle with dynamic and phrasing and use these to help with that.

I completely agreed with you Joel. As a way to complement a practice those are good exercises, but yeah, some of them are really tricky. So far I´ve been exploring the second part which I´ll share in the future..

Thank you Carrie, those are my favourite pieces of the first part, and right now I´m working on the exercises of part 2. Some of them are really cool, and others not so much haha

Well done, German. I love these studies, and might return to them again sometime, inspired by your performances!

Thanks, Rob! I'm glad you had found some inspiration with the video. Grimshaw still is kicking my butt, but there are plenty of those exercises to be explored
