Thank you CB friends.  I have decided to keep my zither banjo rather than sell it.

That is a really nice looking zither banjo for sure! Just on the edge of having to much bling, to my taste, but still not crossing that line. I really love those tuning machines.

Unfortunately I can not come up with one sane argument that would make it ok for me to buy this banjo in my current situation.

How does that machine head tightening work? Make them work more smoothly? I would need that on my old Windsor but didn't know it was a thing comonly done.

Hi Par - yes, the machine heads needed attention - I recall he had to replace some original wooden blocks to stock them rattling!  I'm not sure what else he did but his name is Glen Page (The Banjo Works - used to be called Andy Banjo but Andy Perkins retired).  The perch pole was also loose so he fixed that.  The action is low but no buzzes.  The neck is on the chunky side - not ideal as I have small hands.  I will see if any interest here but if not, I will keep it - and just try and organise my 'collection'.

Don't do it Carrie, everybody should have at least one ZB and now is the season when it comes into its own with Cammeyer's 'A Christmas Carol' 'Hurry Little Children, Christmas Morn' and his song 'Santa Claus and Fairy Queen' to be played. And of course the 108th anniversary of Cammeyer's performance for the Duke of Clarence at Sandringham in January, 1892, shortly before the untimely death of the unfortunate Prince approaches, when all exponents of the ZB raise a glass and remember that fateful year when two suspects in the 'Jack the Ripper' murders were in the same room.

Right. If there's no room to hang it on the wall, glue it to the ceiling!

I got my numbers wrong in my enthusiasm for the ZB, it is 128 years since Cammeyer and Prince Eddie were at Sandringham together, Eddie (often known as 'Collar and Cuffs' ) died on the 14th January, 1892, shorty after Cam's performance. They also had a ventriloquist on the bill. I wish that I'd been there; what a night to remember!

I have found that hard cases stack pretty well.

Thank you Richard - you know, I think you are right.  I think I will hang onto the Zither banjo.  After all, I have gone to the trouble of getting it back in playing order.  I need to look into some of those Cammeyer pieces - 'Santa Claus and Fairy Queen' sound intriguing.

I wonder if I can delete my post!

I keep my banjos (all different shapes and sizes) in hard cases stacked upright where I can find space in my small room.  They will probably start appearing under the bed soon.  Do any of you use racks to stack them?

My immediate thought was: 'I could buy a banjo for that price!'

I do know someone who is a carpenter so might be worth looking into something like this in the future.

I think that is a good decision, Carrie! You would probably be sorry to have sold it, later in life.

I keep all my instruments on the walls or in stands. I like to have them out of their cases to be able to grab them quick. But I also rent a extra room next door to be able to do that. And I don't have that many instruments.

Oh, forgot: where can I find that song "Santa Claus and Fairy Queen"? It's not in the library....

I'll see if I can find Santa Claus and FQ amongst the piles of mouldering paper, I now it was brought out last Christmas so it cannot have gone far.
