I responded with a question, then perceived the answer on my own but now Ning won't let me remove the question without replacing with some other words.
I had a ball, as usual. I regret not being practiced up enough to play or jam effectively. I did get to jam a bit on the viola.
I've been twice before (Nashville and Knoxville) but this time I felt like "family". Lots of friends to re-connect with, many cool banjos and some wonderful lectures. I especially enjoyed things like Pete Ross' detective work and John Hoft's amusing delivery. Really liked Christian Stanfield's presentation of banjo cylinders and 78's. It is very nice to hear it on the original machines!
The museum tours were really great. I'm not a 'folk' person but the tour of the Library of Congress and the insights into accessing the collection was great. The African American Museum was excellent, thought provoking and uplifting. Of course, getting to see some of the banjos in the American History museum's collection was amazing...better yet, to have the actual people who were "there" to collect and to again play some of the banjos was astounding.
I'm very happy to have been lucky enough to attend.
