William Avery Turner

An acquaintance of mine has recently come into possession of a fretless banjo with the neck stamped William Avery Turner, London.  I am trying to get some information for him about the banjo but know nothing of Mr. Turner.  I would particularly like to know if he was the maker or did someone else make them.  It looks like a nice basic  instrument from the photos he sent and I hope to get a chance to examine it in person before too long.  Thanks for any responses.
