Scott Joplin's mother

[bud bennett]

Something that I have often wondered..... do we know what style of banjo playing Scott Joplin's mother played?  I always assumed it was classic banjo, but I was just reading something that mentioned she sang and played southern folk tunes, so I am thinking she did not play classic banjo?

Do we know the answer to this?

What did you read?  Did you check the citations?  What did the author offer for primary documentation or accounts?

"Southern Folk Tunes" is a very vague.
