Our hosting server was having a problem.

Some of the site's features had disappeared.

During a server upgrade to PHP 5.5 a few software glitches caused the sever to throw up error messages. These should now be fixed, but if you find that any parts of the site are not working correctly please contact me.

Ian-about 90% of the jukebox choices I try don't load or play, then it won't "reset"...really slow to load/change choices, then most of the time when I hit play....nothing.

I can't find "my playlist" anywhere.....perhaps someone could direct me?

Chris

Thanks for the heads up Chris. I wasn't aware of the problem. When the server host upgraded its PHP version it threw up a load of weird problems with the NING integration. I will look into it. It all plays here but does display some anomalies.

I won't be able to fix it immediately as I am involved with other things for most of this week.. please be patient!

On my Mac computer the jukebox plays anything I ask it to very quickly after I click the odd little symbol in the upper right hand corner (what *is* that supposed to represent?). And I get a message that my selected tune has been added to "my playlist". I don't see an accessible playlist, but I cannot remember ever seeing a playlist even before the recent server "upgrade".

Thanks Jody,

I have been working on a fix this afternoon and perhaps I should say how it is "meant" work.  I apologise for the complexity but my son and I scoured the Internet to find a player that would do all we wanted it to do and this is the nearest we could modify to provide the features and integrate with the site MP3 database.

Here is what to do to create a "Playlist" or play a single track:

Open the JUKEBOX page and either select a "Artist" eg: Joe Morley, from the drop down list:

OR  add a word or part word in the other keyword search box  eg:   Morley  or  Morl  or Japan

A list of all the Morley tracks in the database appears. Chose a track you would like to add to a "playlist" and CLICK:  "Add to playlist"

A popup box appears informing you that NING has added the track to your "playlist"

Click the  "OK" button and you can then select as many tracks as you want to add to a playlist. Each time the popup box will inform you that NING has added the new track.

You can keep adding as many tracks as you like, and can change to a different ARTIST or search by different keyword and just keep adding.

When you are ready to play the tracks click the "list of files"  ICON at the RHS of the search box

Your "Playlist" will appear and the tracks will automatically play sequentially. If you wish to delete one or all the tracks simply click the "X"

Working fine on this end Ian, thanks!!

Oh my goodness,  you are providing this fantastic free resource and you are apologising!?  Certainly no need for that!

What you describe is exactly how the jukebox works/worked for me both before and after the upgrade, with one possible exception. Is the playlist meant to last? The playlist appears when I click the icon. If I click it again the entire list of jukebox tune options appears. If I select another tune and then click the icon my playlist appears once again with the new item added. Well and good. But if I should leave the jukebox area of the website and go to any other page when I return to the jukebox my playlist has vanished. There is no apparent way to save the playlist other than keeping that page open and creating another window from which to visit the rest of the website. Is this how the jukebox is supposed to work?

Hello Ian-No need for apology, I'm not very good with computers as I have said, and I'm also not good at navigating internet screens....an Edison phonograph is a different matter....but computers...???

Anyway, when I click add to playlist I do not get the window you show.  I get a different looking window that does say my slection was added to my playlist with an "ok" choice, which after clicking upon then disappears, and no RHS or anywhere clue or location to indicate the existence of or navigate to the location of "my playlist".

I tried to play one tune just now, and it did play.  SOME played last night, but only about 10% of the ones I tried, and the same issue with the "my playlist" which apparently exists somewhere in the ether, however, there is no screen indication nor direction of or to it on my end.

I'm reporting here on the thread since I found the problem with my operation of the Jukebox, however, it is not a complaint nor am I pressuring you.

Obviously, I would love to have access to the working Jukebox and "My Playlist" functions, however, I was responding to your "reoprt a problem" button as I thought you'ld want to know in case others were having issues after the server work....it was not a complaint nor an application of pressure to you.

You have done so much for us here, that I am only thankful and grateful to you.

Fix it at your leisure as you can.

We all (or most of us anyway) have lives which need attention....the banjo just adds to the pleasure of that life....don't let banjo issues detract from pleasure in your life by feeling apologetic and pressured to fix something on the site.

You already have my 11 star rating on a 10 star scale.....;-)

Chris

Chris, we'll all get different looking windows, according to what web browser and/or what operating system we are using. You have to click the funny looking thing in the upper right hand corner to see your playlist, even a "list" of one song. Look at Ian's Apology Message and look for a rustic looking red circle with a rustic looking red arrow pointing at it. Inside that circle is the "icon" that needs clicking to access your playlist.  Do this on your own jukebox page, not on Ian's message. I hope this helps.

Yep, as Jody says it depends on your browser. We have tested the webpages for "cross-browser compatibility"  (so it works on them all !  but may have missed some combination of Browser/ operating system)

A correctly working JUKEBOX page, like mine, Marc's, Jody's et al. should show:

When I search for Artist :   Jody Stecher

a list of all his tracks appears:

I select the top track and click "Add to playlist" and the pop up appears:

I click on the OK button and it diappears leaving Jody's list of tracks so I can select another one.

I select the second track and again a pop up appears:

Click "OK" and it disappears again... then I select a third track "Add to playlist"

I now have selected all the tracks I want, so I click the ICON at the rhs of the search box

Now the PLAYLIST will appear:

If you are not seeing ALL the above steps or icons or buttons are missing, then we need to have a look at this end...BUT we will need to know what Browser, its version and the Operating System you are using, so we can try to fix it for you.

Fingers crossed

Ian

Thank you, Jody!

I think I just figured it out...yes, what was throwing me were 2 things....

1- the appearance of the icons

and

2-apparently the concept that to play one tune, which is what I was initially trying to do,  I was trying to do that without adding it to my playlist...which at the time, was something I could not find.

So what I have just done is select 3 tunes to "My Playlist", THEN, played them.....

Which worked fantastically as I imagine it should..

SO....my take on this is that issues are put things in the playlist FIRST, THEN play the playlist, not hit and run playing one song or a series of them WITHOUT the playlist.

There is a possibility I suppose that last night's activities could have indeed been hampered by some residual server issues as posted, but the trial with 3 tunes just now went easily and as I think were designed to do.

Thank you Jody and Ian!

Chris

Ian, our posts crossed in time.....

I refer to my previous post, and yes, just what you explained is what I did and I experienced the proper results as you explain.

I"m using Window 8 and I think some Google Chrome browser or something, so my set up is pretty common.

The larger window examples you show, just for reference, the "added to playlist"  window looks different for me than your example, but functions the same as you describe.

And with the enlargement, I can see that the playlist icon is the same for both of us.

Issue solved for me, working well now.

I think the combination of being stymied and NOT using the playlist was my problem.

Thank you again, Ian.

I hope I did not inconvenience you.....

Chris

I am pleased it is fixed. Everything is easy when you know how !!

:-)

Ian
