My first encounter with the classical banjo was many years ago whilst having lessons from Tom Barriball.Often I played in many sessions with both Tom and his wife and Rob Mirch. My background is playing the Clawhammer banjo for a good 35 yrs now but I learnt a few of those classical pieces.I guess Tom had his opinion about my style and what made me smile was his loathing of Bluegrass banjo. The classic style is very clever and its allways a joy to bump into Rob Mirch now and again and hear him play. Now I wonder if I can still remember Spanish Romance.

Welcome Rob,
After years lost in the wilderness, they always come back to Classic Style :-)
You will find videos of both Rob Murch and Tom Barriball on this website. I am in regular contact with Tarry Barriball too.

A Spanish Romance is a great Grimshaw piece that I learned many years ago too. Check out our MUSIC LIBRARY as the score is there to download.. so there is no excuse now!
Enjoy your time here and please to join in with the discussions!

Hi thanks for your reply.Recently I brought an old Dallas.made for Plumbridge of Brighton.I have allways liked the English made banjos.Eventhough in more affluent times Ive owned Fairbanks instruments but sadly thay have becme so expensive now.My favourite banjo is the Essex concert grand who I got from John AlveryTurner.Lots of happy memories.Bob Webb
