Thanks Bob,

I am pleased that you like the arrangement. Steve and I are very happy with how it came out.

DO IT, DO IT !!  Get yourself a set of Clifford Essex Heavy gauge strings and play some Classic Style.   It is great fun!

Why heavy gauge strings? I am going to mount an old calfskin head on my 28 Granada and use that for my classic banjo.

You gotta use the heavy nylons to get the real Classic sound ;-) They give you the clear, sharp attack  and volume you need. Plus, they last forever and can take a real beating before you need to replace them.

What weight bridge would one use with heavy nylon strings? I use 2.3 gm. or heavier bridges on my bluegrass banjos.

You need a light bridge with nylons... a thick bridge designed for steel strings will deaden the vibrations and stifle the volume. The best bridges are thin maple two-footed bridges, these are often called "Morley" bridges. I like these ones best: http://www.cliffordessex.net/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=271

You could also get a Grover two-footed uncapped maple bridge and sand it down to remove mass.
