Man it's hard to play double-stops when they're sixteenth notes. Quarter notes, sure; eighth notes, yeah; but sixteenth notes; man, that's a lot of repeated strikes on the string with the same fingers.

I'm thinking of tunes like Smokey Mokes, B part, fourth measure. Basic first position C chord with the left hand, but the right hand has to strike both strings several times in a row as sixteenth notes.

My first (lazy) inclination is to just hit one of the notes. But it just doesn't sound right.

This is such a great tune, and it frustrates me that I can't insert it into my line-up, just because of a few measures.

Maybe I need to heed FBC's advice, and start workin' my butt off until I master it.

It just seems almost impossible.

It is an awesome tune, for sure, Carl. My 'blind take' on those notes would be to take them with my thumb and middle rather than with index & middle...much easier as a "pinch", at least for me.

I'd work on this one with you but I'm trying to practice up for Febuary and need to stick with the numbers I've chosen for a while.

I am not familiar with Smokey Mokes but I recognize the problem ;-) Where can I find this "challenging" piece?
From other tunes I have found that there are problems (for me) with both the right hand fingering and the left hand fingering. Sometimes I think I have more problems with the left hand than with the right hand.
Jan, "Smokey Mokes" is available as a Tabledit file back in the yahoo Classic Banjo group. I can't seem to figure out how to upload files to this site yet. Alternatively, I can email it to you...or if you can't use Tabledit, I can convert it to .pdf. ===Marc
Thanks Marc, I got it from the yahoo group.
