I discovered this amazing music after hearing the really nice guy playing his tunes.

I m also very surprised to see the year 1894 on the score of the tune I just arranged.

But every other Morley's score I checked, there wasn't any date. This 1894 is this only time reference I found about the date of publications of his work. Does all the pièces (shared here on this website) are from between 1894 and 1900 ? When they were published, was one by one or was it a pack of a few or a lot compositions ?

Sorry for all this questions, and my English is really not very good, thanks for this cool website.

Have a good evening

Hi sorry for making this topic go up for nothing, I just wanted to share with you these 3 Morley arrangements for guitar

Really Excellent.  I like these arrangements very much.  I am waiting to hear Zarana and Mountaineer's March.  Perhaps any day now.....

Brilliant Rémi !

Thank you for these videos. Morley compositions simply sound good, particularly with your excellent playing!

Ian

I hope that you are saving up your cash for a banjo :-))

Thank you very much Anthony and Ian, it's very kind as you are fine connaisseurs of Morley's music.

I checked the Zarana and Moutainners, the first is really loong and quiet complex, and I didn't find version of the second. But that's somehow that's good when playing a piece that we can't find in any record(I did it a few time; coontown capers and maybe others).

And of course a banjo is really attractive. But it seems also very complex, with this "high" string up to the bass, very strange to make sounding melodic note picking a string lower than the basses! Maybe one day, but as now I finally arranged stars and stripes fort guiar but...in A position (trition from Eb), and capo 2, for the more comfortable position, not to high on the neck, and so the trio is in D, that's really playable; and today I did Lily Queen fro Joplin/Marshall, my god very complex as the left part is really important in this tune, but I m not ready to record them.

Hae a good evning and night, bye banjo friends
ps: sorry for my poor english

I know that there are banjos strung like a guitar, so they are played with the same fingering, but the sound is banjo, rather than guitar.  Your arrangements would, I know, sound superb on this sort of instrument, and this website is just the place to find out more about them.  Good luck.

The banjo is usually a bit less predictable to play than a nice guitar, but the effort is so rewarding......

Remi, as a former guitarist I can tell you that your wonderful guitar arrangements are FAR more difficult to play than these tunes are on the banjo. Excellent work and great playing!

Anthony I just hope that these banjo-guitar have good basses !

John thank you very much ! I don't know very well the real difficulty of banjo music, but when playing a banjo tune on the guitar I try to catch the 2 parts banjo, maybe that's what seem difficult. But really the precision of the real banjo music, with the right fingerings etc, is unbeatable !

When strung with classical guitar strings the basses on guitar-banjos are excellent. With steel the basses sound like they have a cold.

Thanks for the informations Jody !

I take this opportunity for sharing with you both tunes mentionned up.

First is quiet rare, particularly on guitar as I didnt find any arrangements on youtube (Lily Queen)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6GCMHzfMPk&spfreload=10 ; and the second, way more known, popular and played on the guitar since the fabulous Chet Atkins version in E. After him, everybody played it in this key, it's normal has it's a very good way to play all the parts (also the piccolo parts in counterpoint with the trio theme). But here is in A, more easy (relax for the hands, the chords positions are less strong to maintain. And here the bridge is awful/full of mistakes but will do better in futur I hope.

I like the way you used the bass line in your arrangement. Now you just need some Cymbals between your knees and a harmonica around your neck and you could be a wedding entertainer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbbaPfMItz4Hi,

I don't want to bored you with these guitar arrangements, but again I would like to share with you this one. I already did the next arrangement, but I don't know it yet. I'm totally amazed when in front of a Morley score, that's beautiful, detailing, funny, surprising and challenging.
