I expect that many of you (I might hope all of you) will have had a look at the "works of Joe Morley" elsewhere on this site.  This effort is now drawing to its conclusion, after banjo cases, piano stools and the linings of long forgotten wedding trousseaux have been searched thoroughly for those hard to find pieces.  Many thanks to all of you have have helped in this matter.

However, there are some which are still in the Most Wanted list:

Sandown Schottische

Pastime Schottische

Rayon d'Or Polka

Golden Shadows

There are also several others which appear as titles on John Alvey Turner's list, but which are not known to have made it beyond this.  If you know any different:

Titania

Rustic Belle

Ambrosia Waltz

Electra Polka

Lady Vanity

Merry Minstrel's Two step

Savannah

Banjohemia

Also, if you have any hitherto unknown unpublished Morley mss, (of which there are quite a few), please let me know about these as well.

Meanwhile, in all those spare moments, get out your copy of Mountaineer's March.  That will keep you out of mischief for quite some time....

Thank you,  Anthony

I've been thru my holdings several times and haven't turned up any of the missing titles. I think the ABF has some unpublished MS but they will likely hold it for their own publication as a supplement to their newsletter. Their supplements are very, very nice.

Thank you, I have been in very friendly contact with ABF, who have very kindly allowed me to use their unpublished mss, which have been published in their supplements, which I agree are of very high quality.  I have been a member of ABF for some time. You will be able to hear these on the Morley woks site, but not see the score.  You will need to ask ABF for them, unless you already have them yourself of course.

Thank you for looking, it is very kind, and I shall keep on hoping.....

I have Sandown.  It was published in the first issue of the Banjo World.  Chris Ware posted a scan of it a while ago but it seems like the link to the file is now dead.

I have the file and will upload it to the Internet Archive this evening and subsequently link to it here.

Ah, I did tab for "Sandown" when it was posted (2015) and posted a MIDI. I cannot get the MIDI file to play...don't know if it is the PC I'm on or the elderly link. If anyone wants tab or MIDI (or both), the files are on my PC at home and easy to re-attach here.

Very Kind, I look forward to it

Anthony

Okay, just uploaded.  It usually takes a little while for the Internet Archive to build all the files and preview.

Thank you so much Joel.  I have never been able to access Banjo World Vol 1 No 1 before, and I have also been introduced to the Archive, which interrupted my morning for quite some time, and will again.

Sandown Schottische will see tyhe light of day very shortly.

I was able to finally give it a listen last night (to my MIDI files from 2015). I believe the Trio has some errors in it as there are chords that just don't sound 'right'. The first chord is Bb but the second...I don't know what it is supposed to be. Bb-C#-Eb = ? I suspect that Eb ought to be an E-natural (which forms a Bbdim chord)...but I haven't had a chance to muck about with it.

You are quite correct, the first ntoe on each line of the B flat trio should actually be an E natural, otherwise, it sounds "wrong".  Thera quite often a few "infelicities" in the printed copies, and where necessary, and holding my breath, I have put them right.  Usually they are quite obvious, so if they were left in, it would soundas though I had made a mistake, and that would never do.....

The Internet Archive is super cool.  They take "snapshots" of the internet so that the "published" websites do not vanish when people don't keep them up.  The "Wayback Machine" lets you search for old versions and no longer up websites-- a great waste of time!

They also have all the Atari games in playable form.

Perhaps it is time again for me to announce all the banjo stuff I have posted on the various banjo related sites.

It is a worthy cause to create a central library of documents and knowledge.  Now anyone in the world can get at this stuff!  I recommend supporting them with either content or a little money (I do both).

I like to look at pre 1940s catalogs.  It is very interesting to see what people were buying (or trying to sell) back then.

I always trust my ears. If it doesn't sound right, it often isn't. However, I am not so far trained to be able to 'see' errors like this...or know how to correct them beyond 'trial-and-error'. Fortunately, with today's modern computer programs, I can easily move stuff around and give it a trial listen!

It is indeed rarely a difficult choice...but I try to tread lightly.

Your efforts are very much appreciated!

Anthony :

A while back, the ABF  was planning to publish "Electra Polka" (from manuscript) in a 5 Stringer supplement.  However, The Clifford Essex Music Co Ltd. got to press ahead of us.

I seem to recall "Titania" being performed at an ABF rally concert in recent years, but don't have info on the origin of the score.

The ABF  still has a few unpublished Morleys, likely to appear in future supplements.
