Questions about a zyther/banjo

Hi everyone, first a big THANK YOU to this website host for approving my request to becomd a member.

Recently, I bought this zyther/banjo from an estate sale. It is alleged to be from 1900. I do not know the maker and is in a desperate need of repair that I am willing to do. It previous owner did a bad job on it. I would love to share pictures of it before I took it apart and afterwards.

If anyone could help me to upload these picture I would deeply appreciated.

New bridge Reily Baker banjo 1890

Really loved that old tiny bridge but it was producing a mute tone on the first string due to how wide the string slots were. Gap under the bridge, top wasn't level. Quite a few issues but it felt great. Action was perfect, string spacing perfect for me, height of bridge felt great too, even though its a fraction of the height of modern bridges. So I just bought a cheap two leg bridge, was farr too tall, so I cut the legs off to get it nearer the size I wanted. Sanded down the top with a…

American tuning

Hello,I’m interested in learning to read A tuning (American) and I would appreciate any tips and tricks you have to offer.  Are there any tutors in the library that anyone particularly recommends?  Also, what is the preference for using a banjo in…See More

"Thanks again Joel.  I would love to play an original cello banjo but I have never seen one for sale. I used to own a SS Stewart orchestra banjo with a 13 inch head which was superb. I still regret selling it to this day, but a very bad episode…"

"Gold Tone is a weird company.  They kind of get close to the mark, but not quite.   Take, for example, your "cello banjo".  The basis for this was a tenor banjo cello, or a tenor banjo pitched one octave below the…"

"Hi Joel.  Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.  I own a couple of very nice Clifford Essex banjos that are of course superb for classic banjo playing. I also play a 5-string Goldtone cello banjo arbitrarily tuned to E which…"

I've been reading about the Goldtone ML-1 baritone banjo. Something completely new to me. Has anyone used this instrument for classic banjo playing and with nylon strings ? Thanks. Dave See More

Going Sum! (A Rag)..1908..John S. Dechant

The composer of this one off rag came from Fresno in California, other than that, nothing else is known about him. It's one of the best rags I've come across for some time and is well worth a listen and play. I've Photo-shopped the title page to…See More
