The Bobolink is a songbird from the U.S. .I think the second section may be an imitatation of its song.

Thanks for the nice feedback. I often wonder how much more Fosters music would be more deeply appreciated if not for his use of what were then prevailing racial stereotypes.

Somehow my comments have gone missing...

Anyway, at least Foster's tunes remain ubiquitous, though his lyrics often don't. I think this is typical though, lyrics are so much more tied to a specific milieu. I often wonder about some of the modern stuff...whether somebody will be re-creating it a hundred years hence...and wondering what the heck we were talking about!
