Frank Converse arrranged a bit of opera for the banjo. Here is a piece from the 1871 book "The Banjoist", by Donizetti. Early Classic. I listened to the orignal after I pulled it off the page, as an experiment. I'm sure I would phrase it just a bit differently now.
