A superb, and tricky, composition by Frank Lawes. I am playing a Clifford Essex 11" Wood Hoop Special Banjo, fitted with Remo Renaissance Head.

Jon Lawes recently posted that he would like to see Franks pieces played by we enthusiasts, so here goes. Again please forgive errors and gurning!  The score is available from clifford Essex with Tab and notation.

Be gentle with me :-)

Impressive performance! I tried to learn this one a few months ago but had to give up on it as it was far too difficult for me. This banjo's bright, snappy sound suits this solo admirably.

Good luck with it Sylvia. I love the piece, but it is a challenge. My advice?  ... goooo sloooowly and eventually you will get there. I find the second part quite tricky.  If you need any help or suggestions, just ask. I am sure we will all try to help you out.

Nice. Works well without an accompaniment, doesn't it?

Hi Marc. You believe the great fallacy of our time?  "Fifthless Frank" did actually use the fifth string in Hot Frets,  and that was a clever trick on a 4 string banjo !!

Look at the original score:
