Clarke Buehling - Instructional - Spanish Fandango

I just stumbled across this Classic Banjo instructional video by Clarke Buehling on Youtube -- Spanish Fandango is one of the fundamental guitar and banjo tunes anyone should play, so I thought I might as well post it here!

Very neat. Only a few months into my sojurn as a banjo player (1979), I was given a copy of Banjo Newsletter which contained a reprint of "Spanish Fandango" from 1877. I remember really struggling with the R/H pattern and eventually "giving up" on it. The tune somehow stuck with me and one day popped out of a Tenor Banjo...fingerpicked and with a little "country rag" to it a la Norman Blake.

Christian Stanfield, BTW is currently building banjos in the Memphis area and really likes Classic Banjo. I taught him "Sunflower Dance" a couple of years ago (he doesn't read music...so it was a face-t0-face transmission over several sessions). Nice guy, fine luthier and fine musician.

Nice find Mike,

I will contact Clarke to see if he minds having links to his lessons on our "Learn to Play" pages.

For those who would like to try this out, I have added three arrangements of the Spanish Fandango to the MUSIC LIBRARY.
