Comment by Mike Moss on June 10, 2012 at 11:39 Cheers Alan, I usually work in batches by starting to learn several at the same time and then recording them over the course of a few weeks. This is the easiest Sands piece I've attempted... some of them have got foot-long left hand stretches!
So now it is Mike Moss the Ragtime King! ... What unboundless talent our Mike has, great performance.
I looked back at my video of Beat the System Rag and it appears that I often drifted off into my own made up version of the tune :-) It is good to hear it played properly. It is also good to see that the rapid runs down the neck instilled the same looks of panic and then relief when completed as they did when I played "-)
Alan,
Learning them fast is easy... the problem I now have is forgetting them just as fast :-)
Keep them coming Mike ***** from me.
Comment by Mike Moss on June 10, 2012 at 17:56 Ah yes, the rapid runs up the neck... that wasn't mere panic, that was blind, abject panic! I find that it gets worse towards the Trio part of almost any solo, before the repeats, because the prospect of failure after about 2 minutes of recording is much more daunting than after, say, 30 seconds.
Don't worry about your own made up version... it's played on a PROFESSIONAL, so who cares about mistakes? Everyone's blinded by the awesome banjo! :-P
Comment by Jody Stecher on June 10, 2012 at 18:40 As for your own version(s), if doing that is alright with The Really Vess Man it's alright with me.
