Bertie Bassett is today under the lights of  U_Tube  with this beautiful tune  . no doubt he was  a main member of the CB  ' scene . Not an easy tune because of the un_usual fingerings and the 4 notes ' chords .

Interesting; very well played, Marc, nice job with the piano interludes.

It's intersting to point out how much the banjo was associated with "coon songs" back then; Bert Basset called this one "A Coon Song (without words)" in which the banjo itself evokes the entire genre.

For instance, in this one (which helped define the genre), the singer is clearly accompanied by fingerstyle banjo:

It is interesting to point out that Ernest Hogan, the author of the above song, was an African-American and that his contribution to the racist "coon song" genre haunted him for the rest of his life.

A very nice piece and good performance. It sounds deceptively simple and yet very effective. I like the piano break too and the vocal accompaniment reminded me of Charles Aznavour, or was it the face that reminded me of him??

It was absolutely great, and worth a second listen now!

If you would like to "Play along with Marc" you now can, as I have uploaded the sheet music, with piano part and second banjo part, to the MUSIC LIBRARY.
