Today is January 31. All the posts since January 17th have disappeared. Is it just my computer?

And now they re-appeared, below my post.

Hi Jody.

This must be a NING THING.  I noticed something similar happen, briefly, a few days ago and assumed that it was "my' fault... but it wasn't.

I will investigate with NING, who will deny everything!!!   At least the post re-appeared, thank goodness!

"A Ning Thing" could be the title of a classic banjo piece. Maybe we can collectively compose it.

Cool idea, Jody. I'll start the melody:

Rumpty-tum, diddly-dee, ratatatatta...

It sounds like it could be a 6/8 march. I'll supply some pitches later today, Well done, Marc.

Oh, and it happened again. When I opened my web browser this morning and clicked to open this forum there were no visible messages later than Jan 17. I got here by responding to the Ning email message saying there was a response to my post.

All is working fine here, and it seems to be for Marc...time to clear your computer browser cache to see if you are loading something odd from there???

For Marc who has been working on the rhythm, here are a few ideas:

LOL. You've found an analog for our string quartet! Was at practice last night and our 2nd violinist was off in his own little universe...

Actually, I've been noticing the same problems Jody has. Open up the forum and find I'm back in time...open it up again and it is back to normal. Hey, it adds interest!

The video is a embarrassingly accurate  representation of what happens at rehearsals and even recording sessions even of professionals. All four characters were in the recording studio last week!

This is just the third week of our Spring semester, so we're still pretty much sight-reading and feeling out our parts. We have two pretty-good 1st violinists, a pitiful-but-earnest 2nd violinist, two enthusiastic/amateurish violists and a know-it-all cellist who cannot seem to know what she needs to do at any given time.

Our concert-mistress is one of those people who take on too much and then attempt to talk too fast in compensation. "Here's your part, this is an easy one, ready 1-2-3-4! Oh, I should be counting in twos...sorry 1-2! Violas, you should be playing a B...no...an E? I'm sorry, I'm reading the bass score...measure, um, you see the marking for measure 24? 5 measures before that. 1-2-3-4 Oh, sorry...well, we don't need to count in 2, we'll just make it 4..."

It will take months to get us all playing together.

 A quartet with 6 players?

There may be as many viola jokes as there are banjo jokes.

How do you know there is viola player at your door?

He can't find the key and doesn't know when to come in.

What's the difference between a violin and a viola?

A viola burns longer.

etc

Yah, I hate to call us a "string orchestra"...we're really just a quartet with too many players. ;-) If the concert-mistress can swing it, her pre-teen son will sit in for the recital...which gives us a double-bass.

I took up the viola because I got tired of banjo jokes...
