Should we have a scores page? I've just added two big files to my Page here. Click my photo, and scroll down to see:

1. Various tunes from Buckley, 1868

2. Baur's Banjoist's Budget, 1883

If others upload stuff, we should maybe have a dedicated page?

Great idea, Rob. I'll certainly contribute.

Well done on the Baur & Buckley, btw. Both are great mines for tunes.

Say Rob, I have a page dedicated to just this sort of thing on the classicbanjo.com website. It grew to its enormous size through contributions by other banjoists like Trapdoor. I know the work that went into publishing a book of songs; it would be a shame not to have a wider audience for your efforts. Because these two sites complement each other, it seems only right that we do not duplicate efforts and make seekers search through multiple sites for music. I think this Ning site fulfills a niche that my website is not set up for- blogging, videos, live songs. Ian's pages are not yet set up for a library while mine is. Whenever anyone creates a downloadable book, I could publish it and there could just be a link from here to classicbanjo.com. That way we are leveraging each other's strengths.

You will notice that near the bottom of the Songbook page, there are also MIDI files created by Howard Malcolm of all the songs in the books. Another member could add those to your work and the synergy begins. I guess I wouldn't want to see our two sites trying to be all things to all people, and certainly not be in competition with each other. In this way, we could each succeed in our mandates to keep classic banjo alive for the future.

Well, Hal, please do place my scores on your site. I'd be honoured. I should be able to supply midi files as well. Will get back to you on that.

What thinkest thou, Ian?

He everyone,

Sorry for the delay but my other musical endeavour, running a handbell ringing team, occupies much of my efforts this time of the year.  As much as I would like a library of scores, books, midis, live performances, audio recordings, online shop, old banjo and  instrument parts sales etc etc. I must agree with Hal that each of our sites does  have its own objectives. NING offer little in the way of data storage on this $220 p/a package. Video is linked, no audio storage and max of 5meg individual file upload.

I intend to produce a "scores" page but my idea is  to make available notation, TAB, Midi only for videos that are posted on the site. This would allow players to discuss in the forum,"play along", maybe with a piano/ 2nd.banjo  part or even with the original video performance.  I would have to host all files off site and link to them.  Obviously copyright would be a consideration.

Hal, as he says, has the storage and library setup, so with his permission there is no reason why we could not LINK to share facilities, such as tutor books, albums etc. I would guess that most CB players know of both our sites anyway.  I have always thought that this NING site and classicbanjo.com could easily be "sister" sites and that duplication would be of little benefit to either site.

I am sure that we can discuss this further and develop ideas.

I have no plans to incorporate sales from the site.  I don't mind promoting sales, but there are plenty of other music sales outlets on the web already.

Nice work Mr. MacKillop. As somemone who is constantly transcribing from a to c notation, I can apreciate the amount of work you must have put in. I am also a fan of the Banjoist's Budget. Bravo.

Hi Dave. Yes, it was a LOT of work. I had it in mind for a publication, but the potential market was too small to make it worthwhile. So, now it's free, and smiles all round. Some great pieces in there.
