Hi all

Here's me playing "March of the Suffragettes" at Loughton Folk Club.

Sorry for the big goof at the end!

I'd be interested if anyone knows anything about this tune. I found it in the Phil Squires collection. It's credited to "A Mereman".

It seems the "Mere Man" was what we'd call a trope now, a way of juxtaposing conventional men against the Suffragette movement. It seems to have been an American thing.

Ian has found a copy dating from 1907. That's before the Suffragette movement in the UK turned militant and started using direct action. I don't know anything about the movement in the States.

I assumed it would be a comic, mocking tune but it's actually a pretty good march. Interesting it was published under a satirical pseudonym.

Anyone know anything about it?

Sorry, don't know anything about the tune but I enjoyed your performance - as does the person tapping their foot under the table - very catchy!

Hi Russ, that joke gets better the more I hear it ;-)

William J Ball's CE Wood hoop Special sounds as good as you would expect.

I didn't notice the goof at the end. I just assumed that the needle had just jumped on your the cylinder recording !

Great stuff.. keep  them coming!
