I have heard Van Eps play Cupid's Arrow before, but this 1911 recording sounds slightly different somehow...  but amazing!

Wow. I've never heard this cut before. Seems a tad on the fast side...but Mr. Van Eps doesn't seem rushed.

My favorite version of this is still William Ball's.

My favorite VE recording is "Persiflage", which he liked a lot too.

The pitch is coming out a half step (semitone) sharp, in the key C sharp major instead of C natural. I copied the URL on youtube and used the online MP3 converter and put it in the Amazing Slowdowner and played it back at 95% speed. It sounds very impressive now, but like a human being playing the banjo.

Send me the MP3 Jody and I will post it in player format in this discussion so we can all hear. I always feel that even in the correct pitch that FVE plays too quickly. It seems to make his recordings into a bit of a race, but despite this his embellishments and arrangements are second to none in my book!

The mp3 is the same as what you posted. The Amazing Slowdowner plays at whatever speed or pitch (independently of each other) I ask it to but it is purely playback. I can't use it to make a recording at the adjusted speed. At least I don't know how.

Ian

Sent you an email.

After some amazing snap crackle and pop reduction and tempo correction by Shawn I now am delighted to post Fred playing Cupid's Arrow, this time as he would have played it at the time of recording.

It is still simply brilliant and definitely a version of him playing that I had not heard before.

Thank you so much Shawn.

Excellent!

I have full TAB for this, BTW...if anyone wants to try it out. Not for the faint of heart!
